Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpine Botanists - what are these flowers ?

They give off a real aroma that comes and goes in swathes of perfume as you walk through them.

Previous years been really hard to identify what flower it is that is giving the scent, but after all the recent wet weather and now really hot sunshine they are out in abundance.

It's the purple flowers which almost resemble honey suckle.

Hi Weathercam, I just happened to have a Fleurs des Alpes guide close to hand and it looks like Trèfle des Alpes (trifolium alpinum).
Info says its usually seen in the Central & Southern French Alpine meadows, between 1700 & 2700m altitude (fits your location I believe),
flowers June to August.
Looks like a cracking day from your pics. I'm well-jeal Razz

Snow Beard, well done that's it !

Have been further Googling and many a French site refers to the scent / taste as Licorice. I've tried Googling Liquorice but it seems even any English description has "licorice"

"Mountain licorice (Bot) a kind of clover (Trifolium alpinum), found in the Alps. It has large purplish flowers and a sweetish perennial rootstock"

Here's the other mut

Carpets of flowers were stunning, and the altitude "between 1700 & 2700" was spot on !

And for Serre Chevalier groupies this was on the Vallons.

Talk tonight was about going up looking for Genepi as should be a lot around as so many flowers out at the moment.

And looking at Google images even I should be able to recognise that!!
