Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Czech republic

Hi everyone,

I'm considering a midweek ski trip to the Czech Republic early next January. Has anyone been? If so, can you recommend a place? We don't need a huge ski area, but it would be nice to have access to at least a couple of local hills (400m-ish vertical), preferably by public transport.

I've got a couple of concerns - crowded pistes and poor snow in early Jan. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I skied there a few years ago when my son was racing, it was end Jan both times.
We stayed in Ricky, link here

Had a thoroughly amazing time both years, although the second time I went the snow was quite soft and it was unusually warm, but perfectly skiable.
The pistes were not busy, it was very cheap and the food was also very good value. The beers were about a euro a go, and the local Honey schnapps was even cheaper but very good!
The people there were amongst the friendliest I have ever met on the hill.

The downside? No fancy gondolas or mountain restaurants, and the road signs are very hard to find/follow (maybe that was just me being a girl) but all in all a fab place to try if you fancy a very well priced family holiday.
I didn´t see any public transport up there, not sure if they have any?
@AndAnotherThing, I have some pics on FB if you want to have a look wink

edit; Just saw they do have a ski bus Smile
