Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski\Snowboard Hire Mayrhofen

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There are 4 of us off to Mayrhofen next week. 1 skier, 3 boarders.

We are going with Crystal Ski, they give us the option to rent though them but I thought I could get a better deal/selection if I shop around

Are there any suggestions on where to go, or is it all mostly the same price/quality?

Skill wize we are just getting in reds.

Try here. Run by Luggi. He's a local, speaks very good English and is a wealth of information about the area.

+1 Great guy and was certainly less expensive than many other hire shops when I looked. Recommended to me and happy to pass on the recommendation.

had a look at both thanks.
The first link for rentforfun is 50e for boards and boots (6 days), thats a fair bit cheaper than Luggi (~100e)
Any reason for that?

That will be for entry level kit, however all new every year. There are different levels, nice guy that owns it. Think his email is on the website, pop him a mail and I am sure he will answer any questions.

I'm going with Luggi again and I'm sure he just discounts if you turn up on the day anyway (I could be wrong, it was a few years ago...)
Hopefully he'll give me better skis this year though - I felt a little hard done by last time but now I know a bit more on what to look out for.

Luggi's stuff is good, as is his advice on where in the domain to ski (according to conditions). Note that he didn't like credit cards last time we were there - had to nip to the cash machine!

When we used that deal and it turned icy mid week, we asked him to sharpen the edges, he refused and said it was not covered in that price. This was despite living next door to the owners uncle in Dunfermline and name dropping, luckily I had an edge file with me.

So you get what you pay for, beware of Luggi's kids gear, it was not too clever when I went there.

If you're looking for the cheapest gear, Luggi will work. In terms of quality/price, I liked:

Yes your right, entry level kit, the standard kit (silver package) is only a couple of euro cheaper than Lugi's

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

We wouldn't go anywhere else but Luggi. His knowledge and personal service far outweigh the larger companies. Sometimes cheap isn't necessarily better.

The good thing about Luggi is that you don't feel rushed, or one in a number, he takes time to talk about your skiing style and proficiency to get the best match. We have also tried out different skis over a number of days, which is interesting to do, but then we have been going there for nearly 20 years!

We have been hiring kids gear for the last five years, it has always been fine for our daughter, the skis may not be fancy cartoon ones, more like the ones the local kids use, but perfectly fine for beginners.

Laughing €50 a week is very cheap for board and boots, fair enough really. And maybe he couldn't stand the sight of uncle?

Just booked the gear with Luggi (given all the positive reviews!!!) Smile

There was an offer to store the gear at "Penken Mountain Top Station".
Crystal Ski have said they have storage at the base, similarly price, is either one better?

We have used both! Personally, sometimes easier at the bottom, because if you decide to go to the Ahorn, or elsewhere, you don't have to go up to the top to get your stuff. It is walking down or up the road that is the problem, not on and off the lifts.

However, the Crystal shop is smaller at the bottom than the top., but we never waited long. Check you can't use the ticket at both top and bottom. For some reason I thought we could, but I may be wrong with that.

Cheers. The Crystal Ski rep said there are only a few spaces (10 ish) in their place at the bottom for boards, so going to try and nab one quick enough. 4 more days..... SmileSmileSmile

Just back from my trip.
I'd recommend renting from Luggi. I'm sure the other companies are also good but I can only speak about Luggi.

The quality of the gear was good and the price was reasonable
He was also happy to point us towards the slopes that would suit us best.

Glad it worked out for you. Luggi's a nice guy and very helpful. He's a bit of an anglophile as well having married an english woman. He has a son working here as a radio producer I think.
