Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

God it's been hot today! Not much wind until you got to about 3000m and it was quite pleasant as it cooled you down. I skied mainly between 2600m and 3400m today to keep a little cooler. The snow is still fine but lower it obviously suffers in the heat. Forecast is for it to cool later in the week with snow Friday night and all day Saturday. Some interesting sights on the mountain today. Lots of blind/partially sighted skiers about with their guides (some with instructors too). Absolutely fantastic how they do it. There is also a skiercross competion here (they sounded german or something similar). Great to watch them racing and some came past me on the way back to the lift. They were absolutely flying (and I wasn't hanging about). Off to Serre Chevalier tomorrow meeting up with Hells Bells (and Mr Bells), never been before looking forward to it. My step-son, who has never skied is coming Wednesday. I've booked a 2 hour lesson for him Thursday afternoon but I've got to get him started in the morning Shocked

sarah, Yes Cedric Happy I managed 6 hours in them today although there is some pain.

Drove round to Serre Chevalier today and skied with Hells Bells, Mr Bells hurt his leg yesterday so didn't join us except for lunch. It became even more of a Snowheads meet as we met Wags who was skiing with friends at lunchtime also. I'd never been there before but it's a lovely resort with lots of skiing through trees. It was very hot and sunny though and was getting pretty heavy going by 3.15 when we came down. It was a great day though. I've just got back to L2A which is pretty much the same, snow forecast for the weekend.

Just one photo today, loooking over Monetier.

Wednesday was yet another hot sunny day. I pootled around, mainly high where it was cooler helped by a breeze. As I've got to get someone who's never skied started in the morning before a lesson 1 -3 I've been practising snowploughing and snowplough turns. Without some advice from my daughter (she's got BASI L1) on FB I think I'd have struggled even more than I did. Coolest sight of the day was a guy telemarking down the Valentin very fast and stylishly wearing shades (no hat or helmet) and quite a stylish pullover!

Stepson arrived so I spent the morning sorting him out. Liftpasss, skis, boots, etc then on the slopes around 10. Got him snowploughing, then on the button lift and I spent an hour getting him to snowplough turn stage. Then after lunch delivered him to his instructor for a 2 hour lesson. Went well and I met them at the Cretes after skiing alone for a couple of hours. Then took him up and down the Petit Cretes green a few times. Hot and sunny again.

Skied with Danny all day and he's advanced remarkably quickly. Obviously a fair few tumbles but he was skiing all but the steeper blues here by the end of the day. He skied from 3400m right down to the resort at 1650m and we skied 4000m of vertical in total which is not too shabby at all for day 2. Two firsts for me today, we spent half an hour in the Pano Bar at 2600m having our brains scrambled by house music then he insisted in skiing the Demoiselles back to resort. Despite this being my 20th week here I'd never skied it top to bottom and won't rush to do it again. Hot and sunny again but I think it's due to change tomorrow with snow forecast.

Haven't really taken any pictures for the last couple of days but took the helmet cam out today which I'll try to get edited.

The weather changed massively today after 2 weeks of hot sunshine. It was raining in resort when we went up at 9.30 which was light snow higher. As the day wore on the snow got heavier and the visibility got really bad, it was also very windy higher, we came down shortly before 3. Highpoint of the day was 3 guys in the resto at lunch in fancy dress (I think). They looked like they'd got lost on the way to a gay carnival. I will post photos. Good laugh though Happy

Here's the picture of the guys Saturday. We actually met 2 of them in the bar later by complete chance and had a couple of beers with them. They were a little embarrassed they'd been clocked.

ooh

After over doing it on Satuday night I wasn't disappointed at all when Charlotte suggested cancelling on Sunday as the weather was awful. I managed 1 run and 2 hot
chocolates followed by lot's of sleep.

Today has been glorious, overnight snow with mainly sunshine all day. The fat skis came out for the first time this trip and as things had been taken a little easy
I did a black run fest. Bellecombes 5 (Grand Couloir, 1st time this winter), Fee 5, Super Diable, Diable 1, 2 & 3 and Valentin all got skied today. Also did a few
short off piste runs but not much as I was alone without any gear. Diable 2 was pretty much untouched, it's never pisted and I don't think many people can find it,
it was lovely.

This was what I woke up to this morning Happy

Tuesday and Wednesday were both fairly sunny but it's quite a bit cooler now keeping the snow in good condition. It was snowing a little down in resort last night but there wasn't much, not sure about higher up.

Had a day trip over to Alpe D'Huez today. Conditions over there are pretty good too. Had a nice run down the Sarenne followed by lunch in the gorge, hard to beat. Just did a bit of "travelling around" apart from that, down to Villard Reculas and Oz as the guy I was with hadn't been before. Stocked up in the Casino in Bourg on the way back.

Looking down the Sarenne, only 15km to go Shocked

Back in L2A today. Bright sunshine all day and warm lower down but quite a bit cooler higher up keeping the snow very nice. Had a fairly relaxed day skiing with a friend. One also for deckchairs and I assume the conditions must have been ideal as there was loads of parascending going on. Forecast is for it to get warmer with only slight snow for the next few days. I wouln't worry though, there's plenty of snow and even when it's warm conditions are perfect a little higher.

I love skiing on Saturday especially when it's sunny. As I hadn't been over since returning I spent the first hour or so on Pied Moutet on the other side of the resort. I don't know why more people don't ski there, slopes are great, although not easy for mainly blues. After coffee I went over the main side and had a slow slide around, 1 trip up to the glacier confirmed it was really quite cold up there so I didn't venture too high again. After lunch I came down about 2 as I felt a slight twinge in my knee and didn't want to make it any worse. Just had a cold beer sitting on the balcony in a t shirt, had to come in though as I was in danger of dozing off!

Couple of photos showing the main return slopes to resort from Pied Moutet. The first shows Valentine which was in great condition when I came back down. The other shows the 3 Diable Blacks and Vallon de de Diable Red. You can also see Super Diable above which is probably the steepest run here.

A slightly strange day today. Warm but cloudy at first but it got sunnier the higher I went. By this afternoon it was sunny and very warm just about everywhere. Skied quite a lot though, came down about 4.30. Used Ski Tracks for the 1st time today, skied 45 km, 7500m vertical, max speed 77 kph (which sounds about right).

That's better news at least. Even if it doesn't amount to much it should stop the conditions getting worse.

Not a great day today, very cloudy with flattish light. Fair bit of wind up high too. After the overnight freeze everything was very firm and taking some time to soften. I found some nice snow on the Diable blacks back to town around luchtime just before I finished at 2. The red back to town is also now closed, confusingly though the top third is open though the piste markers have been changed to black and it funnels into the Diable 1 black (which was lovely at lunchtime). Forecast is for similar weather for the next couple of days with very slight snowfall.

This is a photo I took a few days ago showing just how big the park is here.

Had a great day skiing with a fairly crazy large group yesterday. A bit of cloud stopped it from softening too much. Lots of cloud up there this morning, must be some snow it was forecast, not skiing today I've a busy week with sunshine forecast, need the rest.

Sunday and Monday were both very hot sunny days. Lower slopes getting very soft and some resort runs suffering badly. The glacier runs are in perfect condition and for the rest it's a case of timing it to miss the icy start or the slushy finish, in between they can be perfect. As the Ski Club of GB says best snow on higher slopes.

Today has been a total surprise, I went up about 10 to find heavy snow spreading across all slopes with poor visibility above about 2300m. The freezing point was around 2000m I guess as snow lower down was very wet and it's been raining in resort. I didn't stay up for long as I wasn't really dressed for it and my spring gloves quickly became soaked. Should be nice tomorrow.

Fee Chalet terrace at about 2100m at around 11.30.
