Poster: A snowHead

"Wild west nostalgia", "broad open pistes", "fabulous ski destination". Those phrases sum up Crested Butte for Mark Nicholls of The Scotsman.
"Fashionable", "terrain that suits all abilities", "superb spa facilities". He's enthusiastic about Telluride too.
Here's his review.

Has anyone here skied at Crested Butte. We were looking at a holiday there in a couple of weeks. It's for 11 hights at the grand lodge. Had a look at the site and it all looks great, but the ski area is only 1000 acres and that seems really small for 11 days. Last couple of years we've done Banff and Lake L & Sunshine are both over 3000 acres.
The ski area has a large section of double black diamonds which we probably couldn't manage and so the area gets even smaller. Other ski areas close by seemed to be limited to Telluride, but that's a 3 hour drive. Is this place going to be to small for 11 days?.

'Fraid so, if you're not skiing the double blacks. A better bet would be a 2-centre trip with Telluride, although I have heard Telluride is currently suffering the same Southern Rockies snow drought as we are here in Taos.
Of course, if you enjoy challenging steep terrain, Crested Butte is up there with the best, I hasten to add.
