@marodo2712,
Yeah, stupidly expensive amount of unsuccessful ivf then a rather long adoption process.
Now I'm surrounded by LOL dolls and most of my earworms are show tunes from the latest Disney offering. Weirdly I wouldn't have it any other way now. Well maybe a refund from the ivf!

@Graham Warren,

I've just come back from The Incredibles 2 movie, what other 53yo gets to do that?

It's emotionally exhausting, but there's definitely plenty of good. 😊

Adoption worked out for me... I suppose I could have picked richer parents, but that'd not be so sporting.
Ice skating is much easier if you have decent skates - most hire slates are rubbish and not sharp.

At the end of last season I spent a few days riding deep powder with some expert skiers. In the bar that evening we were sitting around, and one of the blokes, who must have been over fifty, said "that snowboarder kid really rips". I was the only snowboarder,. I never take my goggles off during the day, so he'd absolutely no idea I was probably older than him.

My other age tale is being stopped by a ski patroller at Silver Star for doing inverted aerials. He assumed I was some 17 year old punk kid.... and he was visibly taken aback when I broke my rule and took my helmet & goggles off. His attitude was also completely different, even though I didn't "pull rank". He backed off so fast it was funny. Youth today.

Did I mention that the age thing allows you to "pull rank"? wink

And women are much easier to deal with once you're old.

I'm part way through learning to surf, which takes I think the same number of days for old people as it does for kids: about 30 to get going, about 100 to be good. I suspect most adults just don't have the time and the staying power, perhaps expecting things to be easy. => unless you have a specific injury or obesity, then I don't think age is any barrier.

Yup, that "rank" thing is epic Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin

However, that "women" thing is VERY subjective and equally wrong Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Though you have neglected the "Brit" accent thing . . . Twisted Evil I could get myself into sooooo of much trouble over here Shocked

@Graham Warren, I'm quite happy to borrow people's kids from time to time, but I certainly won't be having any!

I've always had the same answer for my friends back in wales who are grey and fat and keep asking when are you going to slow down. I remind them of the the Glen Plake ski movies we watched as a kid. When he (Glen Plake) has slowed down enough that I can catch up (he is a decade my senior) I might think about slowing down. Thing is Glen Plake ain't slowing down and he's in his mid 50's.

pushing 65 now, still manage to get out all day but have to pace myself and keep to easier slopes and a steady speed

On another note just tried to renew annual wintersports travel insurance and was told that 65 was to old for them to insure???

Brother in law is now 70 and is also struggling to get wintersports insurance, especially one that covers pre-existing medical conditions

Have searched the forums and sent for some quotes but would be grateful if anyone could advise an insurer that caters for the over 60 age range

Hello @gazza330;
Same thing happened to me at 65.
It's pretty common for that to happen.
I hate to say it but SCGB can cover over 65's.
I did find a couple of others after looking around - I think Saga was one I looked at - but for me the SCGB terms covering for the wintersports were better than the others I looked at.
That's not necessarily a recommendation but it got me out of the problem at short notice.
I have a pre-existing medical condition myself, which meant a phone call to sort out.
I think your B-in-law should be prepared to expect a possible extra premium if they will cover him.
Regards,
Fat George

@gazza330, MPI are still insuring me and I've had open heart surgery since first starting to use them, not to mention being nearly 72.

I use Voyager and the cost went up significantly when I hit 65 but they will cover older skiers. Next year will find out what their attitude is to arthritic hips!

55 for next season, be at least a couple of weeks. manage 60km most days You are only as old as you feel, and there is no better sport to make you feel alive.

The only thing that has slowed down is the night life - a few beers and an early start work far better than a hangover these days!

I am UK citizen aged 71 and live on a sailboat in the Eastern Caribbean which complicates and restricts my access to accident/health insurance when skiing in the USA.

HCCMIS offered good cover up to age 70 but they are a lot less generous with their coverage now I have hit 70.

Does anyone have any other leads to an insurer willing to cover 3 weeks in the USA for someone 70+ and travelling from somewhere like Grenada or Martinique. This seems to be the stumbling block as when they here I will be departing from and returning to a non UK airport they refuse cover.

Have now taken out an annual multi trip policy with All Clear Travel Insurance for £347 for myself and my wife.

Whilst policy was more expensive than previous years with other providers at least they were prepared to cover us where others wouldn't

They have good reviews and more importantly cover pre-existing medical conditions, they also quoted to cover my brother in law who is just over 70 with pre existing medical conditions so happy with outcome
