Slightly different perspective of the same line. Paul this time enjoying exhilarating turns in soft snow.

Keep the great pics coming.

How does the snow quality compare to the alps? I've always thought the lower elevations and sea air would adversly affect the snow but also heard that Norway doesn't see the same temperature fluctuations which often adversly affects the snow in the Alps.

+++ One of the (many) impressive things about this thread is the way you take such great photos in what must be tricky circumstances.

Quick post tonight as on my phone. We met up once again with Kristin (you may recall the name from Lofoten series 1, day 1!), which was a pleasure as always and returned to Unicorn Valley Y (series 5, day 5 I think). This time, the couloir wasn’t full of graupel, the sun was out and the views were...

After a rather spicy top section from the summit, we dropped into the main couloir that was full of good spring snow. As per usual, the lower 200m or so below the couloir was ‘well baked’. A rather aesthetic line.

@DB the snow is heavier than the alps, although we’ve skied knee deep cold smoke here in the past. It’s remarkably resilient to rain.

Objective 1 was a 350m lump called Hoven that stands isolated on the only flat bit of Lofoten. A mellow ski with great views. Here’s @offpisteskiing on the way up.

Sea eagle cameo. Three appeared and two of them decided to preform a courtship ‘dance’ in front of us. This consists of one inverting so they both touch talons and then they tumble for a few seconds. Impressive given these things have a 2m+ wingspand and I think I’m right in saying they’re the largest of the eagles (I can’t be arsed to google it!).

Finally some skiing. Here’s @Arno. Great spring snow, which surprised us given how low and how tracked it was (very popular when it gets snow).

Sadly it was our final day today but once again, @offpisteskiing pulled out the stops for a classic exploration day to a place that has seen few, if any, skis. For the sake of argument, we’ll call it Unicorn Valley A. The light was pretty flat for most of the day so not many pics. Here’s @Arno skinning out of the remote north facing bowl. It’s been very warm so saturated snow below about 250m and good spring snow above that on shaded aspects.

The A Team in all their glory. For the 6th time, many thanks to @offpsiteskiing for a superb 8 days of exploration and ski mountaineering; every year it ends up being the highlight of the season. EPIC 😬
