Intro week to touring recommendations

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Fellow Snowheads,

I'm after recommendations for a week's touring course.

I'll be going solo, so something sociable. I have ice climbed and mountaineered before and can ski most off piste/lift served off-piste in most conditions well. However I haven't toured before.

Snoworks have a backcountry access course that could work - are there any alternatives to consider for the end of March early April?

Thanks in advance!

UCPA Argentiere do week long intro to touring courses - might be suitable depending on your age (they aim for under 40s, but some flexibility). Very good for solo skiers, and very sociable. Plus generally very good value.

I don't think they offer touring in any other centres, but might be worth asking Action Outdoors.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I did one with Mountain Tracks a few years ago at that time of year in Zinal, it was very good. Small group, only 5 of us. It was a good mixture of teaching the skills and doing some good summits and descents. We also skinned up to a SAC hut and spent a night there mid-week.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I did an Introduction to ski touring with ISM many moons ago.

http://www.alpin-ism.com/ is the website.

My guide/tutor Terry Ralphs still works for them so they must do a decent job.

I've did a weekend touring refresher and a week hut to hut with them last year, nothing but good things to say.

Will be with them again in April.
