You must be pretty bad if you consider uping the steps a leap forward.

@louisaski, Walking on the spot - while watching TV/preparing a meal/reading etc :: walking up and down stairs...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@louisaski, the only way to really get fit for skiing is by skiing.

But a good all round general fitness program will help a lot. Roller blading is good. Jonathan Bell's clinic has a ski fitness routine somewhere I think. Or search on Youtube for telemark race training, there's a brutal but brief workout on there.

Where do you live and work? I was in pretty good shape when I lived in cities despite never doing any "exercise" and that was down to walking everywhere (would always prefer to walk 5 miles rather than use public transport during rush hour).

I've not looked at it myself but I think some have highly recommended a "get fit for skiing" programme that Wimbledon clinic puts on line (I think) - it's something to do with surgeon snowHead JonathanBell.

Fitnessbands are like diet books.

Use them for a month and then throw them in a closet.

Lose weight.

Do HIT.

Join a club, running, swimming, cycling. You could go on your own, but being in a club is more likely to motivate you. If you're on your own you'll put it off 'till tomorrow and end up never going. snowHead

We post a program to prep you for ski season on Facebook . It's in the timeline starting October. I'm going to try make it more accessible. I do a background of 8fit ( look for the app in App Store) that gives me a HIIT program and off road cycle
8fit is extraordinarily good. I pay about £40 for the year but you can try it for free

Trackers: just start wearing it and pay attention and your behaviour will change - a good example of a bit of nudge theory at work

@louisaski, If you have an iPhone 6 or 7 it will already be counting your steps, automatically without you doing anything. Use the included Health app to monitor.
