@Mark1863, the offpiste risk yesterday was 4/5 although if we have the forecast weather this week it will soon drop to 2/5. Yesterday it was very heavy and deep so all lines were virtually straight. After recent incidents the pisters were taking no chances, delaying opening times and blasting everything that looked iffy.

Tignes/Val D. Great ski area linked by chair lifts & bubbles. No need to use any drag lifts.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name.

It makes the much maligned Santons look like a picnic. Santons is a Blue whist the Tunnel is a black piste. Lots of difference ;-)

Loads of snow overnight :D :D Looks like about 40 cm on the poubelles and still snowing lightly. Not sure about freezing level. Last night it was raining in Tignes 1800 at 20.00hrs, hopefully the freezing level dropped a little :~/

@fs, A 2hr morning lesson costs €140 (max 5 people) & a 1.5 hr lunch time lesson costs €74 (max 3 people) with ESF. Book a couple of these and use the free lifts & she should be fine.

The various snow forecast websites have snow most of this coming week and a lot the following week. We arrive the 25th. Appreciate the updates from those in Tignes. Currently snowing

May not be the right thread so apologies, but is the current snow cover looking supportive of the resort staying open until 1st May as predicted on the website? Considering a final bank holiday weekend foray to top the year off, but unsure how likely it is that we will be able to ski. Tignes closes on the 8th May 2017. The EK links close on the 1st may 2017. Normally lots of snow cover until well past these dates. The current snow cover is looking good to provide skiing until these dates.

@chocksaway, There was an impressive avalanche on Grande Balme this morning, about 09.30, when they blasted what was left after yesterdays slide. Tichot & access to Col Palet was not opened until after the blasting had finished.

The storm carries on! Looks like another 30cm last night and once again it is still snowing :D The winds have abated, thankfully. Yesterday afternoon was a 'proper storm' (anybody follow Michael Vaughan?) ;-) Today looks like more of the same without the high winds. The poubelle monitors are redundant as they have been completely covered for 2 days  Tomorrow looks like a return to sunshine but with a avi risk of 4/5 the pisteres will be holding their breath all day.
You know it makes sense.

@PowderAdict, thanks for the link. We check transceivers daily/weekly and as stated change at 50%. Also carry spare batteries. We have over 60 transceivers so just wanted to confirm that we are changing the batteries frequently enough.

This afternoon (sunday). The avalanche followed by a helicopter crash. From the local newspaper reports (see link below) there were no fatalities but some serious injuries one in the first slide then other the crash, and some other minor injuries. EDIT The only people involved were the people swept away in the slide and the helicopter crew. http://trentinocorrierealpi.gelocal.it/trento/cronaca/2017/03/05/news/elicottero-precipitato-a-campiglio-escluse-vittime-1.14981021?refresh_ce

Bit of a storm last night  Horizontal, vertical, swirling snow everywhere with windy gusts up to 200 kmh reported on the Grande Motte. As @chocksaway forecast it will probably be a little slow opening this morning with the possibility of everything closing this afternoon as even higher winds are predicted :~/ The good news is it put down another 50 cm last night and it is still snowing.

Groundhog day ??? Just a repeat of yesterday's report The poubelle monitor is in full use this morning with 30cm of new snow overnight :D It is currently still snowing & is forecast to continue most of the morning. The pisterers have been busy since 6.00am blasting away to make the mountain safe. The avalanche risk has increased to 3/5. Stay safe! :D Next week forecast looks insane if you believe lies.com :~/

So if we were plotting a late - 2nd week in April - trip, could we expect to still have decent snow cover? And how suitable will the runs that are likely to be open be for 'a bit beyond newby' level skiers? Appreciate nothing would be 100%. Thanks The whole of Espace Killy will still be open 2nd week of April unless we have a sudden heat wave. The 2nd week of April is not late for the EK.
