To me alpbach would be perfect. I am a regular visitor with the family. There is not masses of skiing but for early intermediates the should be more than enough. Restaurants are all good with a lovely atmosphere. I have also been to zell, Saalbach, soll, ellmau, and while I think Saalbach is my favourite resort I go there on a boys trip. Alpbach ticks all the boxes for what you are looking for. If you are going with a tour op I would recommend the alpbacherhof or boglerhof

Hi I am looking at the rtm 75s. I have been skiing on some k2 impact with 80mm waist for the past 3 years at 167 and they are just a bit to numb for me. When i did some demos at the local fridge i tried the salomom enduro750 the atomic smoke ti and a pair of rtms. I remember i loved the rtms and also the salomons. i was told i would love the impact and stuppidly went for those based on a recomendation. Now i am looking at what i should get as a replacement and the rtms are my first choice. Problem is finding a pair to demo.... I would personally go for a shorter ski as i find it is ok having a ski you can "Grow into" but 10 days skiing a year is all about enjoying the skiing for me rather than self analysis of why your struggling to come to terms with the conditions and or the skis on your feet.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hope all this positivity is right. Going to alpbach on the 18th too. Chocolate box family friendly. Been going for 8 years and like a second home now. My 6 year old was crying this morning because he didn't want to wait another week to be there. Feeling similar myself

We use iggys sport shot in the main village. Have used him for years and is very good to get on with. Tbh though i would probably rather get some boots fitted in the Uk

I can personally recomend not having sky and getting a sportsmania.eu sub. Yes its maybe a little dodgy but it has everything you could want sportwise and always very reliable

I would agree about run 14 should be a black. It's pretty tricky in a lot of places. The end steep bit is steep and can be icy. I took the red option to finish this time but tbh that was harder than the steep section Imo.

I have never read so much tripe. Yes some people can be a bit ott at times and some can't take a bit of stick. This thread is supposed to be about the weather. Let's get back to discussing that rather than the backbiting and carrying on. I am an unsociable little sod and don't really like that many people if they are not of a similar mindset. I probably wouldn't like many people on here if i met them but I do like to read what people have to say about the weather and snow conditions. Thanks to all that contribute and here's hoping we all get the snow and conditions we want.

I know the man. He is a Legend. We kept letting him through with 4 pints in each hand on our first night. The following evening he just offered us a table. What a night. He kept us well refreshed and was more than willing to down the lightweight amongst us drinks Everytime he was double parked. Thanks will get in there early on the first night. Can't wait. Hopefully the current weather set up will change by then too. Although skiing still looks good. :D

Getting a hire car in Munich for our January boys ski trip. There are 5 of us so getting a people carrier. The problem is i cant seem to bring myself to spending 175 on a roof rack. I have seen there are inflatable ones online. Has anyone used these for skis or used anything else similar?

Saalbach is amazing and would probably echo the fieberbrunn suggestion if your not fussed about the nightlife. Alpbach is great too and love both. Was not keen on skiwelt. But I think Austria is great probably wherever you go really. Just enjoy the flow and the apres.

Yes they are great with them. Loads of can't think of anyone in ski school/crèche (alpbach aktiv) who is not fluent. Beautiful friendly village. My biggest downside is the need for a ski bus to and from main lift. Need to know anything else just ask.

We have taken our little one to alpbach 6 years and he is 6. A really good crèche at the top of the mountain. Beautiful quiet little village. Good skiing. Plenty of independent and also t.o accommodation. I personally would go b&b or apartment as enjoy eating out in some of the lovely restrsunts

Yep i had a good time dont get me wrong but the Skiwelt just was not for me. To many bitty runs. we did ski a lot in the day but it was very difficult to navigate and soll is probably the most difficult village in the area to get in and out of. (thats the way it seemed we had some fairly tricky conditions with lots of cloud etc)

@Maersk, I Will only ski austria now. I have been to france 3 times and switzerland twice. For me Austria wins hands down and i know i could be missing loads of great resorts in France ,Italy etc but Austria is perfect. Friendly,Reasonable the infrastucture is amazing. New lifts everywhere brilliant mountain huts with great food and great apres. I know there will be plenty of other places not in austria that have these too but from talking to people and reading plenty about other resorts etc Austria wins me over hands down. Saalbach in particular. (Largest linked area in austria and biggest proportion of fast lifts worldwide apparently) There will be tonnes of accommodation those dates just look at the resort websites. If you dont ski Austria you are really missing out. But if you feel like the big french resorts spoil you it saves a few more people being in front of you in the 2 minute morning lift que...

@smudger, Alpbach is great. If your going half term I assume your going with kids? The ski school alpbach aktiv is great. They have a kids disco evening and also a disco at the presentation for them. Anything you want to know about alpbach just ask. Probably on a different thread or drop me an email on mattiwilkin@mail.com Back to the weather would love sun for my little one topped up with 6 inch fresh each night. But as long as its not rain and/or wind I will be happy

Just come back from a few days in söll and have to say completely agree with big Dave re the skiwelt. Good to a point but could be better... Maps and signs terrible. Enjoyable few days. Not the easiest or most straightforward to get from village to village. Too many short 400m ish runs and only seemed to be getting about 100m nearer your destination with every lift and run Would I go back? Certainly Would I rush back and would it be in my top 5 destinations? Probably not. I stayed in the hotel Austria and that was OK. Nothing spectacular at all but it was clen and comfortable. The food was v good in fairness and was also v friendly.

Yep that's right tbf a fair bit was probably spilt. We did ski down. Iirc we had t shirts and jackets tied around our waist. Was a bit messy but probablyy best skiing of the week. Bergera and bobbys and finally the London pub in hinterglemm finished us off. Just heading to söll with some friends for a few days. Will be fun but wish it was saalbach

Agreed. The best place ever. We walked in at 3.30 one day and the waiter upstairs just said do you want a table. ( we had been good customers the previous evening) so obviously said yes. He soon chucked another party off a table on the balcony opposite the band. He brought us beer all night one of the lads was a lightweight so the waiter downed about 3 of his beers. When the 240 euro bill came between 4 of us we thought we had done well and given them a good return on the table. Until the table behind got their bill 900 euro between 5... What a night. What a place
