I've been to Chambery once during a quiet week in January, that was enough to tell me that it was too small for the number of flights it gets during winter.

I have never noticed Crystal discounting holidays for the following season in January ever, I often check them out for ideas after I get back from one trip.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name.

Wearing a helmet probably saved me from a serious injury whilst not even skiing, I was standing at the mid-station of the Bollin-Fresse chairlift in Val Claret waiting for my skiing buddy and a sharp clump of ice fell on top of my helmet and left a small but deep dent in it. I've worn a helmet for more than 10 years now but after that incident, I would not go back to a woolly hat!

@karen_globalhelpswap, I would consider Montchavin/Les Coches a good area for someone wanting to ski both La Plagne and Les Arc due to it being the location of the cable car that links the 2 areas. The main blue run down to Montchavin is Mont Blanc, it gets very busy and can be very icy at the end of the day and if I was beginner it would make me very nervous. When I stayed in Les Coches, I avoided the lower part by going on the Coches red run. I would recommend you go higher if you want a good home run.

@HuxBux, you'll probably find the person you were talking online to Eurostar was basing it on their regular service trains and maybe had little idea on how the Eurostar ski train worked. Are you on the daytime ski train or the night one? Just to inform you if you are on the night train, you can't take alcohol onto it but you can on the day one.

@HuxBux, I'm certain I've seen a few people take douchebag style bags onto the Eurostar ski train, I've not been stopped with my Sportube which measures at around 190cm in length with my 180 skis inside. I doubt you will have any problems as Eurostar ski trains tend to keep rows of seats vacant in order to take on all ski and board bags.

Sadly, getting enough sleep is near impossible even in Premier on Eurostar. I've done it for the last 2 years, being sat up is a problem and I just can't get comfortable either. The 2 extra days skiing is worth it but I just wish they could at least turn the lights off on the train!

After skiing Pila for one day, I agree with taking a beginner there, it can work for mixed ability groups due to some good runs for more advanced skiers too and the opportunity for ski away days to Cervinia, Courmayeur and La Thuile. I don't know much about Alpbach but it is part of the Ski Juwel area with Niederau, which is a known nice area for beginners/early intermediates and being a lovely valley for sightseeing too.

Anyone going to Passo Tonale of intermediate level should check out the area of Ponte Di Legno and Temu, it has a a lot more challenge than the runs of Passo Tonale itself.
You know it makes sense.

I'm thinking of taking another holiday in addition to my Canada one on 17th January, by going on one on the 6th January! Spotted a good deal for the Hotel Derby in Grindelwald but for a bit extra I saw one for the Hotel Belvedere in Wengen, any advice? :sH: I still need to get the week off but if it does not work out, I'm seriously considering this for 2019.

I was planning to park and stay overnight at the Premier Inn on Bath Road for my flight to Calgary in January. Until I got in contact with Crystal and found that I would save £216 off my booking by changing to a connecting flight! I got a good deal, £30 for the Premier Inn and just under £70 for parking. Taking into account petrol costs and that I got the money back for the parking, it was a no brainer to change my plans!

This has badly affected a friend of mine and his wife, they booked Monarch flights separate from a Hotel room, which was also non-refundable. At a total of £1200, which they had paid in full. They can't get any alternative flights to the destination they were going to on the dates the hotel was booked for either. :(
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I used my Go Pro 5 as a car dash cam for a test run at 1080p. Worked really well. Decided to buy an extra 64GB memory card to go with the 128GB I have. I also got the Dual charger and extra battery pack. The only thing that gets me is how hot this Camera can get and that the battery drains whilst in standby, I've now taken to removing the battery from it when I'm not using it. On the first clear skiing day next week, I will use it, I'm really looking forward to it.

Doing the Eurostar night ski train for the 3rd year in a row on Friday. I live in the North East but the town I live in is on the main East Coast train line to Kings Cross. Takes under 3 hours and due to booking well in advance, I can get advanced fares for around £30 return. Its not for everyone but the extra 2 days skiing makes it worth it for me. :sH:

After my experience on the outbound night train the year before last (I was sat next to someone who drunk way too much!) I was not surprised at the ban this last year. This is going to be the 3rd year in a row that I have used the Friday night Eurostar, second time of going Standard Premier, as it only cost me an extra £11 through Crystal!

Thanks @ansta1, I did consider going for the Hero 4 Black but it was only £50 cheaper. @Themasterpiece, there seems to be a lot of accessory packs on Amazon with cases and chest mounts, I might get myself one of those. Also, I've got a 128GB microSD card, so I have more memory than I need!

I now have a Hero 5 Black and really looking forward to using it but I'm wondering where would be the best place to have the adhesive mount? I'm more inclined to have it at the front of the helmet, to avoid the teletubby look!

After 4 years, I decided to sell my 175 Salomon Enduros, they were a good ski but I felt I had outgrown them in terms of my ability. I'm 189cm tall and weigh around 90kg. I've read a lot about going for a wider ski, I'm not looking at going extremely long but if it gets the best performance I will consider it. I rented a pair of Head i-Titans Supershapes 177cm for my last day in Tignes last season and was really impressed by them, especially when I was skiing on the verges of the Piste. I'm not much of an off piste skier but I am open to improving my technique for it. I'm going to the Manchester Ski test next month, so I am going to test out as many pairs as I can but some advice on here too would be great! :sH:

Managed to ski the Face in January, the tough bit is that really steep part, I fell over after nearly straight lining down it and was laughing nervously when I got back up! Santons was actually very nice this time round for me, just remembered how narrow it was and it was pretty quiet too, which helps.

I'm glad I'm arriving next Saturday morning and not today. This happened last year, on this very weekend, when I was in La Tania and that Saturday was probably the worst conditions I've skied in.
