@Kantha, no hijack do t worry. That's what the thread is for :D We used SMT which we found generally very good but it was my kids not adults so I cannot comment for 40yr olds ish. Skierdad gave very good feedback on Habeler and we actually got our 7 year old a private lesson at the end of the week. Nice small school with none of the big group mentality of most schools. We thought they were great so well worth speaking to them.

@VolklAttivaS5, the Intersport depo at the Penken base or the new top shop are big enough for all equipment and heated. They do family size or smaller sizes. We found the base ideal if you want to use other areas. At the base drop you can get the lift up to the gondola level so very easy. Book online in advance.

If I hadn't busted my shoulder I would have been in Zillertal this week end enjoying the amazing conditions :( Now dreaming of our return at the end of March! Cannot come fast enough 😀
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

For example: https://mpora.com/snowboarding/which-is-more-dangerous-skiing-or-snowboarding Further just because the snowboarder is involved doesn't mean it's their fault. But the injury may be worse as result of a board not coming off whereas skis will come off with the safety mechanism.
which other snowHeads love to answer.

I think they are valid points. Injuries are more common for snowboarding versus skiing for various reasons and they tend to be upper body injuries which may be more costly to fix. The activity of the boarder may also be more park/trick orientated (although this has changed with twin tip skis). I would just like to see stats on injuries caused by collisions between the two types of slope user. I suspect the stats are not available but I wouldn't expect to see most collisions being caused or involving snowboarders due to the numbers of snowboarders versus skiers being so different.

@admin, is it because of the amount they pay out to snowboarders for their own injuries or the amount they pay out to skiers for injuries caused by snowboarders?
You know it makes sense.

Let's stop this stupid straw poll. It's useless and not correct or backed up by stats.

@maggi, I have been boarding for 20 years and every time I have been wiped out by another slope user it has been a skier or group of skiers (usually in stupidly large groups). But I am just sayin.

@Valkyrie, if I had read this yesterday AM I would have disagreed, but then I managed to bust up my shoulder yesterday on exactly the type of conditions you are talking about. Now got a shoulder with titanium pins!....no more skiing for 8 weeks (but should be back in action for last couple weeks of the season!). Thanks to Skierdad for being such helpful! Conditions are certainly icy but I must say the pistes are covered and there is good skiing to be had. Most of area is open. Seems the cannons are doin the job well so no complaints. Well worth a visit if have the flexibility.

Snow cannons have been on for most of the day across the mountain today. Pistes feel in much better condition, shows how the man made stuff helps out! Blue sky again with crisp feel. Great day across the mountain. I must say I am so impressed with the piste condition. I skied La Plagne for the last two years at this time and even after big dumps of snow the stones on the pistes were awful. I have seen one stone here in Mayrhofen so far and that was on the ski route down to Eggalm.

@VolklAttivaS5, I think it rained a bit on the mountain last night and then the temp dropped which caused some ice. It's due to warm up again before the week is out so pistes will get a bit softer I expect. I will check out Zell. Cheers

First day out on the mountain today. Went up Penken to drop kids at ski school then down black red 31 to and up Horberg. 31 was very icy, quite a few people going over on the ice. Runs at Horberg in the sun so lapped a few runs. 15 was lovely. Afternoon we headed over to Rastkogel. In the sun, crisp blue and cold. Runs were icy but in very good condition. No stones or brown patches. 63 and 64 were good today. A few runs closed off the Horbergjoch due to lack of snow including most of 60. Given the lack of natural snow the runs are in very good condition but last nights rain then froze over this morning which made runs in the shade quite tough. Sharp edges required! To be honest I was in la Plagne last year and these conditions are far far better. Very enjoyable skiing.

@VolklAttivaS5, thanks again. Great to hear it's all skiable. Did you ski all the way to the valley floor? Will be there next week so even without more snow sounds like we will have fun. Was there any sign of the Katzenmoos lift opening at Finkenberg when you were over at Mayrhofen?

@davidof, this is very interesting and I had no idea if the running cost of production. I wonder if there are any profitability stats for the Austrian resorts that have used it for some years? Of course the snow making needs low temps which we have been lucky with this year (although rain forecast in some Austrian resorts this weekend).
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
