On the piste I can laugh and and then lose him. On the lift......that annoys me.

@Grizzler, exactly what I plan to do last week of May! Maybe some biking, swimming or cycling in the PM. I understand in the summer it's only 3 or 4 runs open but I am hoping they have a good May and some more is still open May/June. Locals said season pass lasts until end of May at Hintertux.
Then you'll get to see more forums.

@SkiFrogger, I know what you mean. Was just out in the main street with my kids for supper and narrowly avoided a very drunken scouse trying to punch someone. Clearly forgotten the party goes on all night. My wife asked for the bill and we made a quick exit. I think we will eat outside of town the next few nights. For skiing I doubt most of the revellers will ski at all so Penken probably ok. Snow holding up ok on north facing slopes and Rastkogel areas. We want up to glacier yesterday, snow was great but very windy. Today we went to Zell which was excellent (many north facing slopes) and had a great time. Hardly anyone on pistes. 10 mins from Mayrhofen. Well worth a day or two. Weather may close in tomorrow afternoon but we will head up to glacier again in the AM. I haven't been over to Fugen yet so not sure how it's holding up.
which other snowHeads love to answer.

Spent the day up at Hintertux today. Wonderful conditions. Quiet pistes. Up high it was that lovely chalky snow. Great day.

Have been skiing in Mayrhofen for last couple of days. Following the sun seems to be the best strategy. Over to the top of the tux 150 in the morning and doing the runs down to Rastkogel in the AM. Lovely piste conditions up there. Then mainly on the north facing slopes to either side of the Harikiri in the PM which seems to remain in good condition. Slush on south facing slopes and not worth trying from 11am onwards. Resort is v.quiet Having a great time and kids love the sun :D
You know it makes sense.

@Pruman, thank you. Sounds typical spring conditions then. Tuesday weather is looking wet up to 2000.... I think I am stuck on Penken etc for first few days so hope it's not too busy / cut up certainly doesn't look like it will freeze overnight for a few days at least.

This was taken at the end of May last year. "Facilities" had just opened at the beginning of the season. During the season you ski just on the other side of the window.

@marcs44, we stayed at the Edelweiss & Gurgl apartments from the 10th April for one week last year. Think the apartments are called Gletscher Blick. Really nice apartments, very modern and great location. Resort was very empty (second to last week), in fact a few hotels were already closed. Only problem with the apartments is that to use the hotel pool you have to pay each time which we thought was a bit of a rip off but to be honest we would use the apartments again they were so nice. Ski school is just over the road 20m and boot room at hotel very convenient. Hotel seemed nice, mainly English. But as I didn't stay there I cannot comment on the rooms. We prefer apartments with the kids. Easy easy runs. Lots of cruising on easy blues and reds. Blacks are like reds. Great place for kids. Oh and snow was good given how late in the season it was.
You know it makes sense.

Hintertux is supposed to be open too. I will be there in May and will probably ski a couple of days, weather permitting. My youngest is 5 so will get her lessons but she can ski blues already. Rest of the time we will explore the valley and region. I have skied early season at Solden with my kids (youngest was 3 at that time) and just arranged private lessons in the morning. It just meant short ski days and pool/other activity in the afternoon. :) I think you just have to change your perspective with the kids (especially when it's out of season) and think it's a ski plus other activities and be happy with that. Your 3 year old probably wo t be able to ski for more than a couple of hours anyway.

Thinking of buying either POC or Forecefield body armour. Does anyone have any experience of the full vest options (chest, back, shoulders, elbows) please? Wondered if it fits under jacket, level of protection, too hot etc. Advice welcome!

@Bizziegoblin, I switched late teens. Can he skateboard? A few of my mates switched at the same time. Generally the progression to skiing blues is quicker versus boarding. I would say most people spend the first week with bruised backsides when trying to learn to board, as they learn to balance and use the edges correctly. Weight distribution is less forgiving on a board versus early days of learning to ski. However understanding the edges is half the problem and having skied your son would probably pick it up quicker compared to someone who has no experience of snowsports. If he can skate or surf it will also give a good head start. Why not let him try a new experience? :D :D :D :D

@johnE, certainly not this. I had a traditional wire to hold the joint together (stays permanently) and a pin (think it's called k wire or something) inserted into the shoulder st 90 degrees to provide stability.
