@stanton, I was highlighting the cost to wallet and purposely used hard FX instead of %. You can carry on using % though if you prefer.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name.

Even ignoring the Stanton trolling, the cost per GBP 1,000 of spending money since Brexit vote is between EUR 200-300 depending on the rate and commission cost. For some this doesn't sound like much but for many this is significant. Stanton is annoying but his point is valid. This impact may be felt more by single parent families, young people on their first personal funded holidays, large families etc. If you add in the cost of food and import inflation in the uk then disposable income is further reduced. Yes people may choose to go to ski in Bulgaria rather than France or not ski at all. Maybe for the older more financially secure person they don't really care by the added cost but no one should deny it's happening or it's impact is only nominal.

@Martin Bell, thanks for the pictures. Shocking and sad. It's so strange to think I was skiing down this very piste (over the stream) on 29th May this year. In 30 years they will need to build another hut further up towards the top of the ridge (or the very top) or the summer tourists won't be able to see the ice from their lunch spot. Still I understand the Austrian glaciers are doing better than the French this year... Here's hoping for a few years of respite from the heat!!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@telford_mike, I noticed they are not showing the webcam from Tuxer since a few weeks ago. Not sure but could be deliberate attempt to hide the condition from would be visitors. I didn't take any from the top of the next lift as high winds meant getting down quickly but you can see from the webcam it looks quite poor. I am back to ski in Nov so hopefully some good early snowfall helps to hide the rock!

I am in Mayrhofen this week. Every third car has a Netherlands plate in the Zillertal in summer. Germans another third. Seeing quite a few Arab visitors. Ladies in full traditional dress this year.
You know it makes sense.

@clarky999, not on either but will try with Snowmedia. @boabski, it's the big field of rock below Tuxerfernhaus that drills it home for me. Yes sad.

I was at Hintertux yesterday. Wasn't tempted to ski (although snow forecast for today) and the glacier looked in poor condition. Plenty of people skiing though. If I could work out how to post pics from my iPhone I could show the retreating g glacier :~/

@bar shaker, we had this at Innsbruck in May where Avis (BA partner) was very busy after the BA flight landed. Little or no queue at the other desks. But at major airports shouldn't be a big problem. Although wait at Avis desk at Munich last week was 1.5 hours.....nothing to do with BA though.

Yup very annoying for UK tourists to Europe as the actual rate after commission etc will be closer to parity.

@hollando, we like Obergurgl with the kids but wouldnt go there just adults. You can ski the whole resort within 1.5 days and really no steep. However as @timmythedog, says Solden town is not nice. Maybe if you could stay just out of town it would be a good bet or up at Hochsolden (we haven't stayed there) it might be nicer with more km available to you? You can drive to the lifts at Hochgurgl and make the most of the better side of the area for a day.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It's a tough one for Easter 2018. We are going to Austria last week of March when locals will be on holiday too :( but following week is UK holidays so much more expensive.....opting for the cheaper holiday but worried piste will be horrendously busy.

We were up on the Hintertux yesterday (29th May) with the kids. It was 30 degrees in the valley, 10 degrees at the top and around 18 degrees at Tuxer Fernerhaus. Good snow cover all the way down to Tuxer Fernerhaus, was great until around lunch time when the last 100m became very heavy. But at the top it was lovely all day. Quite a bit still open even though the ski racing teams used a fair bit of the top section. Almost no punters on the slopes so we had the rest to ourselves :) We found best conditions all day around the Kaserer side where we literally saw no one. First time up there this late in the season so first time I had seen the glacier protection in action. The tech team were laying out the reglective carpet over large sections including the main piste down to Tuxer Ferenerhaus and also a few smaller sections near the bottom of posts 8 and 8a. They were rolling out the carpet in huge sheets. Sad to see but glad they are taking action. Couldn't see any crevasses but we stayed in piste all day (all the ski routes from the top closed anyway). If I can work out how to post photos from Snowmedia using my iPhone to here...I will post some pics.

@Ravelin, Mayrhofen has street party and fireworks at NY. Ok so train station end means you will need the bus to get to lifts. But it's a quieter end and nicer IMHO. Out of interest, how does it work with a motor home, can you unhook each day to drive to different areas? Or is that too much hassle each day? Zell is 5 mins drive, Glacier 30 mins.

@Ravelin, the ski bus service in Mayrhofen is excellent, no need to walk in boots. Alternatively pay for a deposit locker at the lift base station, this is our preferred option and it works well. Intersport and the Penken is great. Lots of skiing choice in the Zillertal so a great option. Where is the campsite in comparison to the town? Which end?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We are in Zillertal at the end of May so hope to be able to get the family up to Hintertux for a couple of days (or mornings depending on conditions). Just hope this recent snow stays around to allow decent km up there.

The only time in recent years we have used TOs was to ensure decent child care (Esprit and VIP). Otherwise we much prefer DIY. Long coach trips (often with people I would not choose to spend time with) and delays caused by waiting for several flights to arrive before said coach departs really annoys me. Also the obligatory "welcome meetings" and other crap is not my thing. Jumping in a car and going to different places is for me a big attraction to DIY. But I am an antisocial git so there you are. Horses for courses?
